Beyond the wilderness, Rust’s landscape is dotted with monuments, also known as rad-towns. These are irradiated, player-made structures offering higher-tier loot, scientific puzzles, and dangerous encounters with both AI scientists and other players. Venturing into these areas is high-risk, high-reward gameplay crucial for progression.
Venturing into Danger: Navigating Monuments
Prepare before you enter these hazardous zones.
- Radiation: Most monuments emit radiation. You’ll need radiation protection (e.g., hazmat suits, partial rad-suits) to survive. Higher-tier monuments have stronger radiation.
- Loot Tiers: Monuments contain various types of loot containers, from regular crates to more valuable military crates and elite crates. These offer better weapons, armor, and components.
- Puzzles: Many monuments feature electrical puzzles requiring fuses and keycards (green, blue, red) to access high-tier loot rooms. These are often guarded by scientists.
- Scientists: AI-controlled scientists patrol most monuments. They are armed and dangerous. Engage them carefully or use stealth to bypass them. Killing them provides loot.
- Player Hotspots: Monuments are magnets for players. Expect frequent PvP encounters. Be constantly aware of your surroundings, listen for footsteps, and prepare for fights.
- Recycling: Many monuments have recyclers, allowing you to break down unwanted items into valuable components and raw materials. Use them strategically.
- Oil Rig/Cargo Ship: These dynamic monuments appear offshore, offering very high-tier loot but are extremely contested. They require boats and advanced PvP skills to successfully raid.
Conquering monuments is key to acquiring the best gear in Rust, but always go prepared, and expect a fight.
